H.O. Bostrom incorporates a new finishing system providing superior appearance and durability as well as increased protection against corrosion, abrasion and impact in heavy-duty vehicle and marine applications
February 28, 2006 (Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA) - H.O. Bostrom Co. has incorporated a new finishing system for its metal seating components. This finishing system provides superior appearance and durability as well as increased protection against corrosion, abrasion and impact in heavy-duty vehicle and marine applications. Parts completed in the new finishing system have passed 1000-hour salt spray tests, surpassing the standard results for automotive parts.
One of the key steps in the finishing process is the multi-stage washer used to chemically clean and pre-treat component surfaces. This multi-stage process cleans and seals the metal surfaces for better adhesion of the powder paint topcoat.
For marine products, an electro coat (E-coat) primer is applied to the clean components. The pieces are then finished with a durable polyester powder coat to provide extra protection against corrosion in saltwater environments.
Finally, H.O. Bostrom parts are coated with a 3-mil thickness of a TGIC polyester powder coat finish. The particular powder blend used is formulated for good flexibility and protection against cracking; for good surface hardness (a 2H pencil hardness rating) to help resist scratches and gouges; for good impact resistance and for excellent protection against ultraviolet rays, corrosion from sea air and other harsh environments.
Independent testing of the new finishing system shows that component parts that have gone through this new finishing process have surpassed 1000 hours in a salt spray test.
The H.O Bostrom facility is an environmentally clean facility. The new finishing process produces no negligible air or water pollutants.
